Last updated: January 2026

The Short Version

Gladr is built with privacy at its core. Your location data stays on your device. We don't sell your data. We don't use it for ads. We collect only what's needed to make the app work.

This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights under GDPR and Danish law.

What We Collect

Location Data

What: GPS coordinates during active walks

Where it's stored: On your device only. Never sent to our servers.

Why: To show your walking path and enable features like Twin matching (pattern-based, not location-based)

Your control: Delete any walk anytime. Revoke location permission in Settings.

Health Data (Optional)

What: Steps, heart rate, calories (if you connect Apple Health)

Where it's stored: On your device only, via HealthKit

Why: To quietly capture walk metrics without making them the focus

Your control: Completely optional. Disconnect anytime in Settings.

Account Data (Optional)

What: Display name, avatar emoji, Apple ID identifier (if you sign in)

Where it's stored: CloudKit (Apple's servers, encrypted)

Why: To enable friend features, Twin matching, and sync across devices

Your control: Use Gladr without an account. Delete account anytime.

Social Features

What: Friend connections, walk invites, messages (Gladr.+ only)

Where it's stored: CloudKit (Apple's servers, encrypted)

Why: To enable walking together, Ghost Walks, and Twin discovery

Your control: Block users, unfriend, hide from search.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't sell your data. Ever. To anyone.
  • We don't use your data for advertising.
  • We don't track you across apps or websites.
  • We don't store your exact location on our servers.
  • We don't share your walking routes with third parties.

About Twin Matching

Twins are strangers who walk like you—similar patterns, not exact locations. Here's how it works:

  • We analyze walking patterns (time of day, duration, frequency)
  • We use fuzzy area matching (neighborhood level, not exact addresses)
  • Your exact routes are never shared or compared
  • You control if you appear in Twin discovery (hide from search option)

Twin matching is designed to connect people who might appreciate the same kind of walk, without ever revealing where exactly you go.

How Long We Keep Data

  • Walk data: Stored locally until you delete it
  • Account data: Until you delete your account
  • Messages: Until you delete the conversation
  • Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized data kept for up to 24 months

iCloud Sync (Gladr.+)

If you enable iCloud Sync with Gladr.+, your walks are synced via Apple's CloudKit. This data is encrypted and stored on Apple's servers under your Apple ID.

We don't have access to your CloudKit data—it's encrypted with keys only you control.

Your Rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR and Danish data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access — Request a copy of any personal data we have about you
  • Rectification — Correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure — Delete your account and all associated data
  • Portability — Export your walks in a standard format
  • Object — Object to processing based on legitimate interest

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [click to reveal email]. We'll respond within 30 days.
